EMDR Trauma Therapy
Campbell States is Washington DC trauma therapist. Campbell uses EMDR to provide psychotherapy treatment of trauma and dissociative disorders in Washington, DC.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidenced based practice that uses eye movements to resolve past traumas and loss. EMDR has been found to be effective in treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), grief, panic attacks, and dissociative disorders among other issues.
EMDR may be useful in addressing memories or life events that feel "stuck" or frozen in time. When we experience traumatic events, our brains become overwhelmed and we often have difficulty organizing the information in a way that feels consistent with out sense of self and identity. As a result, we often blame ourselves for these events and react with fear, shame, guilt or other negative emotions when we experience reminders of the event. EMDR helps us re-process these memories using different parts of the brain in order to help us reduce distressing symptoms and better integrate the events into our narratives of self.
